Mediaset has premiered the promo content for their new season that will be airing during these coming months of 2022 in which they’re launching ‘Sapo, S.A. Memorias de un ladrón’, a new series documentary about Juan Manuel Candela, nick-named as ‘El Sapo’. Candela broke into Esther Koplowitz’s mansion and stole artwork pieces by Goya and Sorolla, valued in 300 million Euros.
It is considered as the “robbery of art of the century” in our country, that took place in 2001. Now, more than 20 years later, El Sapo himself will tell his story in first person and how he did this robbery in a documentary that is produced by Señor Mono and directed by Nacho Medina.
In this mini-documentary, the thief will give details about his “crime career”, he will also explain to the audience the famous robbery to the businesswoman. The theft made by El Sapo was pretty easy to execute. Candela was helped by two other people. When they broke into the businesswoman’s house, they got to get a copy of the remote that opened the garage’s gate… They did not have any problem accessing the mansion. In about 20 minutes they robbed about 19 art pieces and escaped.
El Sapo was in jail for a few months for this crime and has been arrested several times after. The last time was this past 2020, when in pandemic Alarm State in Spain, he was arrested in the greater Malaga area due to a million Dollar scam in a gold purchase-sale operation in Kenia.
